Pierre Girieud - Neoclassic painter

Pierre Girieud, Neoclassic painter

In 1918, Girieud was one of the many painters who returned to naturalism.
Leaving youth behind and anxious to return to some well established basic principles after the upsetting horrors of war, they tried to express beauty through tradition.
Girieud, who no longer followed fashionable movements such as surrealism, was fascinated by that new pursuit. Gradually, as he was influenced by friends belonging to Gasquet's group, he started choosing antique or religious themes and landscapes and mostly devoted his time and inspiration to the achievement of large mural decorations or frescos in the manner of the Renaissance masters.
